FLYING AIRCRAFT INTO LAND-LOCKED PUBLIC LANDS

Editor's note: This letter was received from a concerned sportsman from Evanston Wyoming. He is requesting that others would support his efforts to see certain regulations be changed concerning flying aircraft into land-locked public lands. I have included the letter he received from the Wyoming Game & Fish Department.

WGFD - Letter to private citizen - January 7, 2010

FLYING AIRCRAFT INTO LAND-LOCKED PUBLIC LANDS

DEAR SIR/MAM

I am writing you as a leader of a major Wyoming Wildlife and Hunter Organization.  The Wyoming Game & Fish is having a Commission hearing this March to implement draft language regarding using aircraft or air vehicles, ultralights etc. to access land-locked public lands.  The public hunters of Wyoming have a vested interest to ensure large ranchers and land owners do not try and block the public from using these public lands.  The only way to legally access hundreds of thousands of land locked public acreage is through the use of air vehicles.  I would appreciate your organizations support and ability to mobilize the public to continue the use of these important public lands for not only hunting but access in general. Another concern I have is the state has a current policy to not allow flying of aircraft within 24 hours of hunting.  I would like to consider a proposal to change this to 6 hours.  The main reason is many of the public land locked parcels are state lands and you cannot camp on state lands currently overnight.  This would effectively render all land locked state land unusable.   I am attaching a copy of a letter confirming these hearings sent to me from the Director of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

Best Regards,

Brent Petersen, HUNTER, PILOT
